tasting note

harvested by-hand on september 13 and 27 from grapes grown in our two saint helena vineyards, 2021 barbour cabernet sauvignon offers full-bodied richness.  densely purple in color, the wine has aromas and flavors of ripe bing cherry, blackberry, cocoa powder, black tea, crushed flower, and graphite.  the tannins are silky, a hallmark of celia welch, and the extraordinary finish is beyond lengthy.  please enjoy 2021 barbour cabernet sauvignon in its youth following a brief decant.  it will continue to evolve for 25-30 years.

 
technical note

the fruit was destemmed and sorted, fermented on its skins for approximately three weeks prior to a gentle pressing and aged for 22 months in 65% new french oak.  it was bottled without fining or filtration in july, 2023.
